Buffalo’s Tech Uplift: Seniors and Veterans Get a Digital Boost

Buffalo, NY – July 10, 2024 – Did you know that right here in Buffalo, a tech revolution is underway? And it’s not just the young people leading the charge.

Western New York Computer Coaches celebrated its official launch with an event held on Saturday, July 6th, at the Leroy Coles Library on East Delavan Avenue.

The organization, founded by Air Force Special Ops veteran Lance T. Walker, aims to empower seniors, veterans, and middle-aged job seekers with essential digital skills.

Sixteen proud graduates of the “Digital Skills for Grown Folks” class were in attendance, along with a half dozen esteemed guests, to mark this significant life milestone and kick off the next phase of their lives.

During the event, beautiful certificates were presented to the graduates, recognizing their hard work and dedication. In addition to the ceremony, plans were discussed for achieving the ambitious goal of disbursing more than 50 desktop computers to successful course graduates by Labor Day.

This initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to providing ongoing support and resources to its students.

“Our mission is to help make sure members of our community are prepared to take advantage of the massive opportunities being created by technology today,” said Mr. Walker.

“We’re on a mission to provide motivated seniors, veterans, and middle-aged job seekers with the baseline computer skills that nobody else is teaching – skills they must have in order to thrive in today’s digital world.”

Western New York Computer Coaches offers expert-led classes designed to make technology accessible and enjoyable for all. With a focus on practical skills and real-world applications, the organization is dedicated to helping individuals overcome their fear of technology by sharing remarkable secret knowledge “that even the grandkids don’t have.”

PC computer donations are now being sought as graduation gifts for our deserving students. Classes are also being scheduled at select senior centers, veterans organizations, churches, and educational institutions.
